"FAME, I’m going to live forever!”
It is a lyric from the upcoming musical produced by St.Thomas University’s Musical Theatre program. This musical show covers many topics, including obsessive behavior, drug addiction, economic difficulties, and so much more. St. Thomas University is producing this type of show as an opportunity to bring our community closer together. Many of the topics being described in this show happen in real-time all around us, even if we don’t see them, which is one of the important reasons why a show like Fame is being produced. This musical would shed light on these complex situations and might inspire someone to help another in a difficult situation or help themselves.

Being a part of St. Thomas University’s musical theatre programs will help you to open up to learning how to act, dance, and sing while helping with your public speaking. And for those who want to be a part of the show but don’t want to perform on stage, this program also has a stage crew where you can learn set building and design and also work with costumes, backstage, lights, and much more.

What is Fame, you might ask? “ The show follows the final class of New York City's celebrated High School for the Performing Arts from their admission in 1980 to their graduation in 1984. All of the struggles, fears, and triumphs—from prejudice to substance abuse—are depicted with razor-sharp focus as the young artists navigate the worlds of music, drama, and dance. Fame is an international sensation that continues to reach new generations of performers and audience members. The show provides great opportunities to feature a diverse talent pool and showcase artistic mediums like dancing, singing, acting, rapping, and musicianship.” (‘Musical Theatre International Shows Licensing Company).

Any student, regardless of major, is welcome to participate in this production, regardless of their class status. For more information about how to audition or be a part of this semester’s production of Fame, you can contact Dr. Elizabeth Turner through email at
[email protected] or at her phone number (305-628-6770). You can also find her office located in the old student center. St. Thomas University’s production of “Fame” will run from April 26th through April 28th, which is a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This production will also be held off campus at Pace High School's auditorium, which is located directly next to the St. Thomas Campus.
