A Sonnet about Miami

Should I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art the sun that shines on us all year,
The light, the rays, the breeze, come what will may,
I shall remain, for thou is what is dear.
Thou are all that I have ever have known.
I have walked down thy’s many different roads.
I have seen your trees, your deadly cyclones,
Your beautiful sea and humble abodes.
I have talked with your people, new and old,
I have swam with the dolphins once before,
I have seen the sunset glimmering in gold.
In my heart, there is something that I swore.
This is my home, the place from whence I’m from,
If I had to leave, I would “how come.”
