The Eye of the Bobcat team had the absolute pleasure of visiting the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens— and it was nothing short of magical. Tucked away in Delray Beach, Florida, this serene and peaceful sanctuary is the ideal staycation that we recommend to everyone! From the moment we arrived, it felt as if the world started to lift. All the stress, noise, and tension we carried with us faded into the trees. The peaceful atmosphere of gardens wraps around you like a warm hug. From the soft rustle of bamboo leaves to the calming sounds of waterfalls and chirping birds, it’s a place where your thoughts settle, your mind clears, and you can finally breathe. The gardens are designed with intention and care, inspired by centuries of Japanese tradition. Each pathway you take leads you to new pockets of stillness, zen gardens, stone lanterns, koi ponds, and our personal favorite– a rock formation made to make you think and theorize on its meaning in quiet contemplation. The presence of Buddhism also lingers in the gardens and represents spiritual journeys, spaces that invite meditation, and the natural beauty that whispers unspoken wisdom. What makes the Morikami even more inspiring is the story behind it. George Morikami, a Japanese immigrant and farmer, was part of the Yamato Colony—an early 20th-century community of Japanese settlers in South Florida. While the colony eventually faded, George remained. He worked the land with hope and dedication, dreaming of sharing Japanese culture with his American neighbors. Upon his passing, he donated his land to Palm Beach County, and that generous act gave birth to the Morikami Museum and Gardens. Even in death, George Morikami's legacy lives on. His dream became a haven—a place where peace is planted like a seed and continues to grow with every visitor. It's almost as if his spirit still wanders the paths, gently reminding us to slow down and breathe. By the time we reached the end of our visit, something deep shifted within us. Our minds were quiet, our shoulders loosened, and our hearts felt lighter. The Morikami invites you to experience this beauty, live in it, and carry it with you once you leave. If you're in need of stillness, healing, or just a break from the fast pace of life, the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens is a staycation that will leave you renewed. Come for the flowers. Stay for the silence. Leave with peace in your pocket and a lighter heart. 🌿✨ Some images from our team:
